Common sense, technology and art
After semester 1, I read through ‘What is a Designer’. This article was written by Dormer, P (1993). As I was reading I was thinking about what kind of designer I don’t want to be.
I have many favourite designers who also possess the qualities of an artist. The reality is that designers are often taught not to just design what they like because designers and artists have different requirements。
Many things are done with common sense and technology up front, and finally with art
Apple’s technical specifications are actually much lower than those of Huawei’s phones at the same price, but many people still like Apple because people don’t care about the technical differences when the performance is sufficient. Apple combines technology and art better, so it is the last artistic element that makes the difference.
Not only designers can design, but everyone in life can design. For example, if a patient’s test results are submitted to two different doctors, they are likely to come to different conclusions, some of them accurate, some of them much worse. The difference between these doctors, who have the same knowledge and use the same technical skills, is in fact a matter of art.
