What I learnt in the video

  • The most surprising and refreshing theory to me was that it only takes 5 users to test your app to find 85% of core usability questions. Conducting quick usability tests at a cafe is very effective and cheap.
  • Boris Masis said: “You learn a lot from the first person you talk to, a little less from the next and so forth after the fifth user you’re wasting your time.” This explanation explains my confusion very well.

My experience with user testing

To be honest my usability testing left a lot to be desired and I only got two students to help me with the testing. They are not outdoor enthusiasts, although they are in the habit of watching the weather. So as you can imagine the final test results weren’t very valid. So next time I will look for more relevant users to do the testing for my design.

I have also found that the tone of voice when testing users is important, and it is best to be relaxed and open-minded in order to get more valid findings.
